With new seniors moving into our area at an increasing rate, the newsletter is a valuable way to let people know what services and activities are available to them at the senior center. We meet regularly with new participants to our center from other parts of the country. Adults age 60+ make up 26% of the Catawba County population, and this is expected to increase 25% in the next 20 years. We mail newsletters to over 1,400 people, email to more than 1,000, distribute over 1,500 copies to 60 community locations throughout the county, and post on our website, Facebook, and Instagram. Healthcare professionals, such as pharmacists and occupational therapists in rehabilitation facilities, use our newsletter to connect patients with us who would benefit from our services. The LPi newsletter has changed the way we communicate with the community. To say the newsletter has had an impact is to minimize the enormous impact it has truly had. The newsletter serves as a directory for the future. Its primary purpose is to inform and educate the community about what we are doing. Second, it brings new people to the Council on Aging. Today, the COA ‘delivers’ over 5,000 copies of the newsletter every month, with an open rate of more than 50%.
